Scooter Clubs Bring Riders Together

Scooter owners are taking fun to the next level. Seeking out other riders on web sites like ScooterFanatics, riders are banding together at meet-ups to talk scooters, swap stories, and ride together. Scooter sales have jumped 200% since 2004 and continue to rise, according to Dow Jones' Market Watch, spurring the nationwide interest in scooter clubs.

Most large cities now sport at least one scooter club. Membership is not limited to 20- and 30-something urbanites. Many suburban boomers and seniors are joining riding groups. Clubs sponsor group rides, fund-raisers, and drive-ins to local restaurants to swap stories and spare parts. Washington riders recently hosted their second annual Scootergate rally with record attendance.

Some clubs are dedicated to a particular scooter model. Moped Army, a national group that promotes finding and restoring 1970s and 1980s mopeds and updating them to current environmental code, was one of the initiaters of the scooter craze. Moped Army was created in the late 1990s to promote environmentally friendly and fun commuting, said Annie Tsui, co-founder of Mission 23, the New York branch.

Your local scooter shop and the internet are good places to start if you want to join a riding group. If you're in the Sykesville, Maryland area, stop by the Scootertronics showroom and service center and we can help hook you up. If you're in the market for a new scooter, or are a first-time buyer, Scootertronics carries a complete line of quality scooters to meet every need. Fun Scooters Save Gas

Across the country scooter sales have been rising as gas prices soar. "The gas prices helped me justify it," said Linda Rose, a Carmichael, CA grandmother of her green Vespa GT 200. "I just filled my tank for $5 and I could tootle around for another 100 miles. I do everything on it." Rose hops on her scooter to go to work, the video store, the grocery, and recently cruised the Auburn hills on a road trip with 40 other scooter buffs.

"With scooters, the whole image is having fun and saving money," said BJ Strass, editor of Scooter Rider magazine, in an article posted on NorthJersey.com. Fun and love of the outdoors top the list of reasons his 7,000 readers buy a scooter, but gas savings is behind the recent surge in scooter sales.

Scootertronics carries a full line of gas-saving scooters starting at under $1,000. Scooters get 60 to 100 mpg depending on the model. Some scooters are designed to cruise at 40 mph on surface steets with more powerful models made for highway travel capable of reaching speeds up to 100 mph. Scooters differ from motorcycles in their step-through design (no straddling the seat while riding) and automatic transmissions (no clutches, no shifting). This makes them easy to learn to drive and comfortable to ride. Visit the Scootertronics website to find the scooter that's right for you and start saving money at the pump today.

July with a Bang

 Where has the time gone

Well I have not been around too much there has just been so much going with getting our new location going and adding staff to internet offices and all the parts orders. The whole thing with the parts is we just can not meet the demand and must change the way we are doing things and drop alot of the parts we were trying to sell. By mid May we had run out of most parts we had bought up during the winter months for the Geely scooters and simply can not find anymore except going straight to China. Because Geely will not produce scooters for USA anymore we are forced to basically shut down except for engine parts which we will always have except some the pistons and such because of the different sizes that were used.

Scootertronics will contine to sell MRP Parts and parts for all our scooters we sell but most others will have to look esle where for parts we simply do not have, there are a few others out there selling parts for 50cc scooters so they may be of some help.

We have begun stocking parts for Yamaha scooters and the Minerlli engine which is used on the Zuma, CPI, Vento, Strada RX8 UM, and Aprilla. As soon as we stuck an RX8 from Power Sports Factory in our window blam here comes the Yamaha riders wanting to know where their parts were so we ordered them up and now help all. We will carry everything for all scooters that we can get our hands on plus all models form our site although not all at once we will hold off on some 150s till we get started with the Meitian line leading the way with Strada next along with Primo and Avanti. Our relationship with Power Sports Factory has me confident we will be able to sell and service the Strada line not only in MD but the surrounding states as well. Scootertronics will be a major force in bring economical scooters to the Baltimore Washington area.

Stocking New Location

As of right now we have 50cc Retro and Sport scooters in our new location in Syksvile MD along with parts and service. We will bring some Primo Terminator 150s in first plus some Verucci models and Strada models some of which we have now. So yes come down and see our scooters.

Sales

Sales have slowed down alittle which is just about the way its been the last two years thi stime of year with vacation and school out. With the gas prices the way the are we will still see a surge in buying throughout the end of the year. I still feel we are not meeting the demand that is out there with so many different sites popping up is hard for the consumer to get anywhere and know what is a good scooter and a good buy. We feel the only way to know you are getting something that can be considered a good buy and a safe buy is get a scooter from a full service shop that has a business license and a DEALERS LICENSE to sell scooters. If you are buying a 150cc scooter this is considered a motorcycle and dealer must have a license to sell a new vehicle this means a physical location with mechanic and shop to service and provide warranty work,  without that they are illegal period and you should look else where to buy a scooter. If they are internet only forget it they are not telling the truth. Beware of internet sales, this seems strange coming from a site that has bulit its whole business by selling on the internet and has basically supported our retail location with sales form the internet. But because of this it has taught us what the consumer whats and what products and service we need to provide. If there is a problem with one of our scooters we have techs that can troubleshoot the problem and get it fixed in a short time by having scooters we work on we know what could be wrong. If a site does not even have a shop how would they know. Its a big deal buying a scooter do it right.

Thanks for visiting  and please contact me with any comments or questions, we love our scooters and the customers who buy them. Michael Milstead

Scooters Are Perfect Vehicle for Retirees

Scooters are exploding in popularity as gas prices soar out of sight. A favorite with penny-counting college students and city commuters, scooters are catching the attention of the 60- and 70-year-old crowd. Scooters are a natural for retirees who run a lot of short neighborhood errands, according to an article posted on Motorcycle.com. Easy and stable to ride and a breeze to park, scooters are a fun way to cruise around town. Run your errands on a scooter and you can cross "get gas" off your list before you even leave the garage!

"People who commute 3 to 5 to 10 miles every day, they come in to buy a scooter," says Eric Dobay, co-owner of RedStreak Motors in Hudson, Canada. "They drive for 2 weeks without putting gas in it."

With smaller scooter models starting around $1,000, first-time owners will make back the purchase price in gas savings in the first year! Smaller, 50 cc models can reach speeds of about 45 mph and are perfect for in-town errands and commuting. Scooters with larger engines can reach highway speeds of up to 65 or 70 mph. Scooters are the perfect vehicle for retirees. Cheap to buy, maintain, insure and run, scooters are easy to ride and park. In most states, smaller models do not require any special licensing.

Scootertronics carries a complete line of scooters to fit every need. We prep and ship scooters nationwide (and beyond) and provide the best customer service in the business. Visit our website today to view the latest scooters and start saving today.

Scooter Sales Soar With Gas Prices

Americans' wallets are significantly lighter this week as gas prices edged over the $3 mark in the midwest and reached appalling prices well over $3 on both coasts. As gas prices soar, more people are turning to fuel-efficient scooters to get around town. Major Smith of Greenville, North Carolina estimates he's already saved $150 in gas since buying his scooter earlier this summer.

"The way gas prices are getting, as far as around town, short distances, you can't beat it," said Smith in an article posted by Eyewitness News 9. "It sure saves on the wallet."

Even the largest scooters (150 to 250 cc) average 60 miles per gallon for in-town driving. With smaller 50 cc models, you can get a whopping 90 to 100 mpg. In comparison, a 4-cylinder car averages 28 mpg in town; a V-6, 22 mpg; a truck or SUV, only 14 mpg.

Scooter sales have hit the fast lane. "They've been very popular," said Tim Woolard of Ron Ayers scooter sales in Greenville. "Our sales have increased every month this year."

Scootertronics has experienced the same phenomenon. Visit the Scootertronics website today to see our complete line of gas-saving scooters. We test every product we sell and can help you find the right scooter to suit your needs. Our customers attest to our superior customer service. At Scootertronics we want your riding experience to be enjoyable, comfortable and safe. Put a little more heft in your wallet, buy a fuel-efficient scooter from Scootertronics today.

Live to Ride Another Day. Wear a Helmet!

Ever since Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger crashed his motocycle into a car on June 12, motorcycle safety and helmet use have been debated in the press and around the water cooler. Roethlisberger, 24, wasn't wearing a helmet and didn't have a valid motorcycle license, according to Linda Stahl in an article in the Louisville, KY Courier Journal (click the link to read the article).

Jim Leidgen of the Brain Injury Association of Kentucky had a similar experience only 3 days after Roethlisberger's crash. An experienced rider with almost 3 decades of biking under his belt, Leidgen crashed his motorcycle into the back of a boat during a sudden stop in rush hour traffic.

"All of a sudden they stopped. I tried to stop and the bike broke out from under me. I skidded into the back of the boat. I was moving about 40 miles per hour and felt myself hit the rail. My head must have hit the guardrail three times."

Leidgen was lucky to walk away with only buises, scrapes and a skid mark on the back of his helmet. He credits his helmet with saving his life and said he is "more passionate than ever" about helmet safety. He also feels other protective gear, including boots, vest and gloves allowed him to walk away from the accident.

Scootertronics has always been a proponent of scooter safety and offers superior, crash-tested helmets and protective gear to our customers. In many states, scooters are not subject to the same licensing and safety requirements as motorcycles. Safety and defensive driving are the responsibility of every rider. You may like to feel the wind whipping through your hair, but riding a scooter is no less exhilarating when your locks are protected by a helmet. Scootertronics urges you to be safe, wear a helmet, and live to ride another day. Visit our website at http://store.scootertronics.com/ to see our complete line of scooters and protective gear.

Delivery Services Using Scooters to Save Money

The high price of gas has business owners exploring some creative delivery options. In Middletown, New York, Domino's Pizza owner Patrick FitzGerald purchased a used scooter to use for deliveries.

"I'm saving a lot," he said in an article in The Times Herald-Record. "The scooter gets 50 to 60 mpg, while the cars get 25 mpg."

A hot box attached to the back of the scooter holds five medium-sized pizzas. FitzGerald is so impressed with the gas and maintenance savings he's considering purchasing additional delivery scooters to replace his fleet of cars. To read the article go to http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2006/07/10/business-jfnewdelivery-07-10.html.

Go Green with Electric Scooter

Go green with an E-bike or an all-electric scooter. They're the new summer rage in busy cities like Newport, Rhode Island where "parking is virtually non-existent, traffic is ever-present, gas prices are well up over $3 a gallon and paying ticket fines is as common as changing your underwear," says Beth Bottis in an article posted on EastBayRI.com. (To read the article, go to http://www.eastbayri.com/story/286476224968582.php.)

Shriners Scoot Down Parade Routes

A 4th of July parade isn't complete without the Shriners riding their scooters in tight formation. A dozen to two dozen red fez wearing men cruise down the streets of America's hometowns every holiday bringing joy to awe-struck children and adults in support of the Shriners Hospitals. Perhaps the most famous scooter riders in the world, the Shriners are a perennial parade favorite.

Smiling on their identical bikes, the Shriners motor down the street in neat rows, suddenly breaking formation to follow the leader in crazy figure 8s. Forming up again on opposite sides of the street, they zip and zoom between each other's bikes in what looks for all the world like a frenetic game of chicken but is actually a well-rehearsed, precisely timed maneuver. It all falls in the "don't try this at home" category, but sure is fun to watch.

Scootering is as much fun as the Shriners make it look. You may have to practice your figure 8s in an empty parking lot instead of a parade route, but the fun and ease of riding a scooter will have you wearing a smile as big as any Shriner. Visit us at Scootertronics to view our complete line of scooters and mopeds. We can find the perfect scooter for you.
